Established in 1947 by Sam “Posey” Hill and the legendary Texas Goodnight family, the historic Hill’s Café has remained in its popular South Austin location since its inception. Now owned by popular radio personality Bob Cole, Hill’s Café has become a hot-spot for live music, with bands playing on the outdoor stage in the vast biergarten, or inside, where each of the booths and tables is named for a local musician. During the summer, Hill’s hosts a free concert series, broadcast over a local radio station, featuring such notable talent as Kevin Fowler, Cory Morrow, and the Derailers, and also features a night for unsigned acts to perform. The restaurant serves southern home-style food, including slow-smoked BBQ, steaks, and cracker-crusted chicken fried steak with yellow gravy, and the full bar has nightly drink specials.
